Humans, the Forest and the River

Red beetle walking on a child's hand. Below, orange tarp with craft supplies and forest floor with green leaves are visible.

here, now, feels not good

 it's good

GOOD!!!

we fell, it hurt

      it feels wild

            feels light, feels bright

the air around us

trees

leaves

humans have lived here for a long long time

the forest and river have lived alongside each other

post-it notes feel familiar

they are made out of wood

    like the trees

now we know it’s important for people to come to the forest

how to create things using the forest

we would like humans to come here again

some red beetles are beautiful and part of nature

we can all work in harmony and enjoy time together

we can work together with the forest

we think we want to come back again

that we are not hurting it, forest

we hope that you remember us :D

that we meet again please

we hope the sun is here again ☼

that we continue to show respect

HERE, NOW

THIS FEELS FAMILIAR

NOW WE KNOW

NEXT TIME, WE HOPE

• HERE, NOW • THIS FEELS FAMILIAR • NOW WE KNOW • NEXT TIME, WE HOPE

For a moment, we allow ourselves to experience urban forest time. We investigate the more-than-human connections in and with Gateshead Riverside Park, using our bodies, personal stories, and collaborative place-based explorations. During and after each prompt, we record our responses. There are the stories we uncovered.
